TOP 5 ESSENTIAL OILS FOR TRAVEL
Are you a firm believer and user of essential oils like we are? Then don’t let them get left behind when travelling. Travelling can be stressful, but packing a few of your favorite essential oils for travel can help make it more enjoyable for everyone. Here are our top 5 essential oils for travel.
HOW TO USE:
Essential oils can be used in several different ways. Aromatically, internally, and applying topically are the main ways people use oils.Â
Using oils aromatically is the most common method of using essential oils. To diffuse oils when travelling you can use a mini diffuser such as the Orb from Young Living, or a portable USB oil diffuser. Just put a few drops into the diffuser and turn it on. No diffuser while on the go? Just apply a few drops into your hands, rub them together, and take deep breaths to breathe in the scent.
To use oils internally always use a vitality oil or place a drop of oil in a veggie capsule with a carrier oil before ingesting. Certain oils can be very strong and are not made for ingesting in their pure form.
Applying oils topically can be very beneficial especially when applying to an area of pain because the oils can be absorbed directly into the skin. Again be careful when applying pure oils directly to the skin. Some oils need a carrier oil such as coconut oil to help dilute the pure form and to help spread it into the skin.
Now that you know a little about how to use oils correctly, we are going to discuss our top 5… I mean 6 essential oils for travel. Once we started this post I remembered one I never prepare for a trip without. See if your favorites make our list.
6. THIEVES
Thieves made the list because you always need to start with this one. Even before you travel Thieves Oil is a must have. It helps boost your immunity and can help ward off unwanted germs. I added this to the list after I made it because it is more of a preparation oil for me. However, it does come in the best hand sanitizer form around and is a must have when packing for any trip.
5. STRESS AWAY
Stress Away by Young Living is our go to when we just need to stop, take a deep breath, and reevaluate a situation. Planes can be delayed, shuttles can run late, kids can get tired and cranky. It all happens with family travel. Using a few drops of Stress Away on your pulse points, back of the neck, and by breathing in deep breaths of the scent. A few minutes later you will feel better.
4. DIGIZE ESSENTIAL OILS FOR TRAVEL
Digize is a must have for any kind of tummy issues. In a diluted form it can be used in a roller bottle to rub directly onto kids for tummy aches. It can also be used, by adults, directly on the stomach for gas, bloating, overindulging on that yummy vacation food we all like to eat. You can also use a drop of the vitality form into a glass of water for relief of indigestion and heart burn. It does not taste good, but you will thank me later when your stomach stops hurting.
3. PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OILS
If you haven’t tried peppermint oil yet, you have been missing out! Peppermint is amazing for headaches, stress, travel sickness, and sore muscles. Peppermint is a very strong oil in its’ pure form and really should be diluted with a carrier oil such as coconut, jojoba, or grapeseed oil when applying it topically.
When using it for headaches it is a good one to breathe in to help relieve tension and then apply on the temples (avoiding the eyes), forehead, and back of the neck. If you happen to get it in your eyes please use a carrier oil to flush it out. Water can spread the oil and can be dangerous. Also, when applying it to the back of the neck before bedtime make sure you don’t get it on your pillow. If you roll over into it while you sleep you can get it in your eyes that way too. Yes.. I’m speaking from experience on this one.
2. LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OILS FOR TRAVEL
Lavender has so many amazing uses its’ hard to know where to begin. It has calming properties and can be used to help fearful kids relax when going on a plane for the first time, or when travelling to a new place. It can be used at nighttime to help adults and children relax to adjust to sleeping in a hotel room. Lavender can also be used to heal burns, stings, and scrapes. The best ways to use lavender are aromatically and topically.
1. DEEP RELIEF ROLL ON
My number one oil of all time which I use more often than any other is Deep Relief Roll On by Young Living. This is a blend of Peppermint, Lemon, Balsam Fir, Clove, Balsam Copaiba, Coconut, Wintergreen, Helichrysum and Vetiver oils.
Deep Relief is so good for sore muscles after walking in theme parks all day. It is also good for neck and shoulder tension from riding in a car or on a plane all day. Because it comes in a roller bottle it is easy to apply directly to the affected area. There is no need to dilute it or diffuse it. It is an oil for adult use only. It can be too strong for children. Some people may also experience UV sensitivity when using this product too.
