Disney Buses: Reliable and Convenient

If you’re staying at a Disney resort hotel, the complimentary bus service is one of the easiest ways to travel. Buses run regularly from all Disney hotels to the four theme parks, water parks, and Disney Springs.

  • Wait Times: Buses generally arrive every 10-20 minutes. Use the My Disney Experience app to check real-time arrival times.
  • Accessibility: Each bus accommodates wheelchairs and ECVs with designated spaces.
  • Best Uses: Ideal for traveling between resorts and parks when other transportation options aren’t available. Value Resorts and some moderate resorts ONLY have buses for transportation to and from the parks.
  • Disney Springs: There is no direct way to get from the parks to Disney Springs. You must go to a resort first and then use a bus (or water taxi depending on which resort you transfer to) to transport to Disney Springs.
  • Problems:  Buses can get very crowded during busy times.  If you happen to be claustrophobic you may want to avoid busy times, or seek a different form of transportation (Uber, Lyft, Minnie Van) to your resort.  You may also have to stand up, while riding, if the bus is overly crowded so be prepared.

Disney Boats: A Scenic Ride Across the Water

Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the parks with a relaxing boat ride.

  • Magic Kingdom Resort Boats: Travel between Magic Kingdom and the Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Fort Wilderness, and Wilderness Lodge.
  • Friendship Boats: Travel between EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and resorts like the Swan & Dolphin, BoardWalk, and Yacht & Beach Club.
  • Disney Springs Water Taxis: Connect Disney Springs with Saratoga Springs, Old Key West, and Port Orleans resorts.

Not only do these boats provide a unique view of Disney World, but they’re also a peaceful way to travel.

Disney Skyliner Transportation: A Gondola with a View

The Disney Skyliner is a fan-favorite transportation option, offering breathtaking aerial views as it glides between resorts and theme parks.

  • Routes: The Skyliner connects Caribbean Beach Resort (the main hub) to Hollywood Studios and EPCOT. It also serves Pop Century, Art of Animation, and Riviera Resort.
  • Speed: Often faster than buses, making it one of the best ways to get to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.
  • Tips: Skyliner cabins don’t have air conditioning but have plenty of ventilation. Avoid peak hours (park opening and closing) for shorter wait times.
  • Adventure Lab: Hop on board the Skyliner at any station to start the Skyliner Adventure Lab in the Adventure Lab app.  Keep your app open as you go through the different stations to collect a virtual postcard for your adventure and add to your Geocaching stats.

Walt Disney World Railroad: A Nostalgic Journey

For a charming, old-fashioned way to travel, hop aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad in Magic Kingdom.

  • Stops: Main Street, U.S.A., Fantasyland, and Frontierland.
  • Why Ride? A relaxing way to travel between lands or take a break while enjoying scenic park views.
  • Adventure Lab:  Part of an Adventure Lab can be obtained by riding the train.  It pops up in the area between the Main Street USA station and the Frontierland Station, so have your phone in hand and app open to claim it.

Disney Monorail: The Classic Highway in the Sky

One of Disney’s most iconic transportation options, the Walt Disney World Monorail, has been shuttling guests in style since 1971.

Disney's monorail

The monorail has three loops: the Resort Monorail, which connects Magic Kingdom to the Grand Floridian, Polynesian, and Contemporary Resorts; the Express Monorail, which provides direct service between the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC) and Magic Kingdom; and the EPCOT Monorail, which travels between the TTC and EPCOT.

The monorail is a must-ride for first-time visitors and provides stunning views of the parks and resorts. Plus, it’s stroller-friendly and a great option for avoiding busier ground transportation routes.

Adventure Lab: The Resort Monorail loop also has an Adventure Lab on it.  This is another fun way to visit some beautiful Disney resorts and add to your Geocaching stats.

*PRO TIP: Book a Deluxe Disney Resort Hotel package to enjoy convenient transportation via the monorail. Deluxe resort guests also have benefits of extended evening hours at select parks.

Ticket and Transportation Center Ferry & Hidden Mickey Geocaching

One of the most iconic ways to reach Magic Kingdom is via the large ferryboat from the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC). This leisurely ride offers stunning views of Cinderella Castle as you approach the park.

But did you know the TTC is also home to an amazing Hidden Mickey geocaching adventure? Several Adventure Labs located while crossing the Seven Seas lagoon form a Hidden Mickey geoart.  This is a fun stop for geocaching enthusiasts. Download the Geocaching app and complete the adventure while crossing from your boat!

Tips for Navigating Disney World Transportation Like a Pro

  • Use Multiple Options: Sometimes, combining transportation methods (e.g., Skyliner + Monorail) can save time.
  • Check Peak Times: Buses and Skyliner have long waits during park openings and closings.
  • Stroller Tips: Boats, the Skyliner, and monorails allow unfolded strollers, but buses require them to be folded.

What’s the Best Disney Transportation Option?

Each transportation mode has its perks. If you want speed, Skyliner is often the fastest. If you love scenic rides, boats provide beautiful views. If nostalgia is your thing, don’t skip the Walt Disney World Railroad.
