This Father’s Day, consider exploring the world with your dad and creating unforgettable memories together.  While there are countless options available, from practical gadgets to heartfelt keepsakes, perhaps the greatest gift we can give our fathers is the gift of travel. Whether your dad is an outdoor adventurist, a gamer, or just wants to relax, traveling has something to offer for everyone.

Gift experiences, not things

Dad does not need another tie or BBQ apron.  What he does need are memorable experiences with his family.  Usually, family vacations are not Dad centered.  This year why not try something different? Let Dad pick the location or surprise him with a vacation to a location of his interest instead of the kids’.

Oil field park

One of our favorite Dad-centered locations to visit is the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources.  Located in Smackover, AR this Arkansas State Park features memorabilia from the oil and gas field and the history of oil and gas resources in Arkansas.

Plan an adventure together

Adventure comes in many forms for different people, but for most dads, it’s enjoyable to just be with their kids.  Dads work hard throughout the year and they deserve an adventure all their own.

One adventure that is good for a dad is taking an ATV or UTV ride.  You can easily do this on a day trip or rent a cabin for the weekend.  A popular riding location in Arkansas is Moccasin Gap/ Macks Pines.

Some Arkansas State Parks even allow riding on the trails.  For your enjoyment, parks such as Mount Magazine and Daisy State Park have ATV trails within or near their parks.

Consider a weekend getaway.

Looking to get away, but short on time? Consider a weekend getaway to Branson, MO, or Tulsa, OK.

For the dad who likes gaming and being active a trip to Ripley’s Super Fun Park is a must. Ripley’s Super Fun Park is not your typical Ripley’s attraction.  It has an indoor laser tag course, laser maze, and more just waiting to be explored.

A great way for an outdoors enthusiast dad to spend the weekend is at The Gathering Place found in Tulsa, OK.  This outdoor park has bike paths, a fishing dock, and numerous play structures for the kids to climb on.  Several free public events occur here, so check out their schedule online.

Try a new activity together.

Often when we travel we step out of our comfort zones.  With the mindset of “I’m never going to see these people again” allows us to loosen up and take down barriers that normally prevent us from trying new things.  A vacation allows us to relax and be in the moment.  It’s a perfect time to try a new activity.

Scuba lessons while travelling with dad

Cruise ships allow us to try rock climbing, ice skating, scuba diving, and surfing.  These activities may not be available in your own hometown but are perfect experiences to gift dad for Father’s Day.

Cruise ships also offer one of our favorite activities, eating new foods.  If dad isn’t a sports enthusiast, he can still enjoy trying new cuisine on a cruise ship and taking in a show after dinner.  New activities don’t have to be only for the active lifestyle.

Make unforgettable memories with dad

After the vacation is over, we still have our memories and pictures to look back on and remember.  You can’t say the same thing about going to work every single day.  So be sure and make unforgettable memories with dad whenever possible.

Piranha plant at Super Nintendo World

For the gamer dad, we suggest a trip to Universal Studios HollywoodSuper Nintendo World is now open, and you and Dad can be transported into a video game.  What dad wouldn’t like that?

Go inside Bowser’s castle, use power-up bands to collect coins and play mini-games, and meet unique characters.  Those are just a few of the things that you can experience on your trip.

Final Thoughts

Giving the gift of travel to Dad this Father’s Day is a nice alternative to the usual gadgets, ties, and t-shirts.  Dad probably does not need more “stuff” to find a place for, but creating memories can last a lifetime.

Traveling to a new place if only for a day trip or a weekend getaway can be the perfect way to help Dad relax and spend quality time with the family.  This Father’s Day try to be dad centered and do something that is all about him and his interests.   Dad works hard all year long so let’s help him feel special on his special day.
