Outdoor Fun Near You
The world has not shut down! Just because you might not feel comfortable travelling does not mean that you have sacrifice fun with your family. There are lots of things that you can do for outdoor fun in your own area that can be healthy, fun, and best of all… Low cost!
Go for a Drive
You will be amazed at how many interesting things can be seen from just a drive in the truck. We are fortunate to live in the beautiful Ozark Mountains. I can honestly say that every time we go for a drive, we find something new. Some of the things we have seen on our drives have been wildlife, waterfalls, and beautiful rock formations. This past summer we even had bears run across the road in front of us!
Hiking
Most state parks have hiking trails available for free. We live near White Rock Mountain and Lake Fort Smith State Park where there are several family friendly trails. Need something more challenging? Try out the Ozark Highland’s Trail in Arkansas. It has 270 miles of rugged hiking and backpacking.

Play Outside
Anymore, kids don’t seem to want to simply play outside. We live in a world of technology and instant gratification. We forget that getting outdoors and enjoying the sunlight helps improve moods and provides us with Vitamin D which is essential to living a healthy life. Many local parks are reopened now and are free to enjoy. Yard games can be fun for the family too. One of our favorites is the classic Corn Hole. We also have a swing set in our yard that allows Morgan to climb, swing, and slide away.
Reconnect with Nature
Aromatherapy is proven to enhance the health of the body, mind, and spirit. Cedarwood and Pine trees found in the Ozark Mountains; both are good sources of respiratory support. Just getting out of the sounds of the city and going into the woods can help reduce stress and improve your overall mood.
One of the best purchases we made in the Spring of 2020 was a new Teryx 4 Side by Side. This has opened a new world of adventures to us that were inaccessible to us before. The kids love to find new swimming holes and search for interesting rocks. We have seen lots of wildlife such as deer, an owl, a coyote, snakes, turtles, and fish.
Final Thoughts
There are many things you can do outside with your family to have fun, stay healthy, and enjoy at a low cost. You don’t have to be creative to find something. Go for a drive, hike, play outdoors, and reconnect with nature are just some of the fun things you can do. Getting out of the house is the first step to a world of adventures waiting for you. Remember: Life’s Short…. Take the Trip! Where will you enjoy the outdoors today?
