Dallas is home to the nation’s largest urban arts district and is also the country’s largest land locked metropolitan area. It is easy to access through the DFW airport or by driving.
Because of its vast size we know you will never be bored or go hungry. It is full of restaurants, activities, and shopping. We guarantee there is something for everyone to enjoy on a trip to Dallas.
Ripley’s Grand Prairie, TX
Just outside of Dallas lies Grand Prairie, TX. Here you can find another great Ripley’s Believe it or Not location. This location consists of a wax museum, Ripley’s Oddities and Curiosities, a Laser Maze, 7D Theater, an outdoor art garden, and a Mirror Maze.
With so many attractions in one location you can enjoy several hours of fun here. On our last trip Morgan enjoyed the dance party room in the Ripley’s museum, I enjoyed the journey through the life of Christ in the wax museum, and Daniel enjoyed the 7D Theater. There is something for everyone in the family to see, enjoy, and learn from here.
American Girl Doll Store in Dallas TX
A great place to spend lots of hours (and money) is at the American Girl Doll Store. The original AG dolls about how girls would have grown up during significant historical events and different periods in time. They have evolved into the Truly Me series and each doll is his/her own person just like all of us. Each doll like each child has a story to be celebrated.
It is amazing the size of this store. Spanning two stories the bottom floor is the retail section where you can view and purchase all of the dolls and accessories. The top floor houses the bistro, tea room, and salon. Services for hair styling and ear piercing are available in the salon. You can enjoy a special lunch at the bistro or an afternoon tea party at the tea room. Private party rooms are also available upstairs.
Hotels in Dallas TX
Finding a hotel in Dallas can be a little overwhelming. We suggest starting with location and brands you know and trust. Traffic in Dallas is not the best so choosing a hotel near the activities you plan to enjoy is a plus.
While trying out a new hotel chain can be exciting, sometimes it leads to disappointment if you go in without doing a little research first.
We greatly enjoy the Embassy Suites brand by Hilton. However on our last trip we found out that not all Embassy Suites are created equal.
The location of the Embassy Suites by the Galleria was great. It is literally a 5 min drive around the block to the AG store and the Galleria mall. However, the elevators are extremely slow, the noise level from the lobby echos up into the rooms because of the hotel layout, and the noise from the street traffic is bothersome.
On the plus side the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and well maintained, and it’s nice having a complimentary hot breakfast in the mornings and an evening happy hour with drinks and snacks.
Shopping in Dallas TX
Big city = Big shopping. One of the popular locations to visit while in Dallas is the Galleria. It is a towering four levels high. The bottom level even has an ice skating rink for the family to enjoy.

Dallas, TX is a great place for the whole family to enjoy on a short visit. It is full of activities, restaurants, and shopping that can be fun for everyone.
