Take a Solo Trip to Disney World

Taking a solo trip is exciting and nerve racking all at the same time, but a solo trip to Disney World is invigorating.  Disney is a great place for solo travelers because of the safety and security, transportation, endless options for entertainment, and food choices.

Planning a solo trip to Disney may seem a little scary and a bit awkward, but it doesn’t have to be.  Disney is a magical place that has something for everyone.  It is not just for kids.

“To all who come to this happy place; welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past…and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America…with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.”

Safety and Security

Travelling solo does not have to be scary.  On my recent solo trip to Disney, I went through several airports and a bus ride before arriving at my Disney Resort Hotel.  By planning ahead, I was able to navigate with ease.  Using a travel advisor helps with all the little details so you just have to follow the directions already planned for you and enjoy the trip.  Travel advisors take the stress out of travel for you.

Another nice thing about a solo trip to Disney is everything is on property.  We have all heard of the “Disney bubble”, well, in a way it actually exists.  By staying on Disney property, you have the convenience of all of your dining, entertainment, transportation, and hotel being very close together so you won’t have to feel unsafe driving around an unknown city.

Transportation

The best thing about a solo trip to Disney is it is actually easy.  By staying onsite at a Disney Resort Hotel, you don’t have to worry about navigating through the city, finding parking, or being late to a reservation.

Disney's bus system

Disney transportation will get you where you need to go so you don’t have to drive around in crazy traffic.  Many options for transportation to and from the park and Disney Springs are available at the hotels.  Disney offers the Skyliner, Buses, Monorail, and Ferry Boats to get you where you need to go.  Transportation runs regularly and schedules are available in your My Disney Experience App and are also posted at the waiting stations.

Entertainment

Disney entertainment is in an endless supply and is perfect for a solo trip.  You will never have to worry about being bored when in a Disney theme park, and finding a spot to watch a show or a parade is easier with a single person versus a whole group.  Many rides offer single rider lines which can often be faster for wait times.

Four rides at Disney World have single rider lines:  Rockin Roller Coaster (Hollywood Studios), Expedition Everest (Animal Kingdom), Millennium Falcon Smuggler’s Run (Hollywood Studios), and Test Track (Epcot).  By using the single rider lines, you can get through the lines faster and see more on your trip.

Shows like Fantasmic can get very crowded, but finding a seat for a single person instead of a family of four is much easier.  Getting a good seat at a show early is always recommended, but it is easier for a single person to get a seat at the last minute.

Genie+ plans are also easier to schedule for solo travelers.  You can choose what you want to do versus having to go along with the majority of the group.  You set your own schedule and choose the attractions based on your own personal interests.

Food Options

Solo travelers actually save money on food at Disney.  Buying one meal is so much less expensive than buying four at a time.  Solo travelers don’t have to plan long sit-down meals either, unless of course you want to.  Snacking around the world at Epcot is a fun thing for solo travelers to do.  There are so many different foods to try, and having the luxury of buying one snack at several locations is highly recommended.  Eating several small snacks can be less expensive than a single sit-down meal too.

Eating on a solo trip to Disney

If you want to enjoy a sit down meal reservations and seating are easier to come by for solo travelers than for large groups.  Reservations at popular restaurants and character dining are always recommended, but your chances of getting a table by walking up to a restaurant as a solo traveler are better than with a larger group of people.

Dining at quick service locations is easier for solo travelers too.  You can always get your food to go and sit outside on a bench or a wall to eat if you can’t find a table inside.  Trying to find seating for larger groups is always harder than finding a single seat. Ordering time can be faster too.  You don’t have to wait on the rest of the group to decide what and where to eat. You can eat on your own time without planning ahead.

Great quick service restaurants include: the spring roll cart (Magic Kingdom), Woody’s Lunchbox (Hollywood Studios), any festival booths (Epcot), and Satu’li Canteen (Animal Kingdom).  Several of these also offer mobile ordering in the MDE App so you can pick it up quickly.

Final Thoughts

Taking a solo trip to Disney can be one of the best places to enjoy a solo trip because of the safety and security, transportation, endless options for entertainment, and food choices. You will never feel awkward or be bored on this type of trip.  You will have great food options and lots of options for entertainment.  By staying on property you can stay inside the “Disney bubble” and enjoy the overall magical feel of Disney.
