Why Take a Solo Trip?

Taking a solo travel can seem scary, but when planned correctly it is actually rejuvenating. The best thing about taking a solo trip is the ease of travel.  Solo travel can be easy when it comes to packing, saving money, and bringing independence.

A study done by Solo Traveler in 2022 resulted in 85% being women who take solo trips.  Many of these people also said they like to take solo trips so they can see the world without waiting for someone else.   79% of the respondents aged <55 prefer to travel independently, whereas 61% aged 55+ prefer to travel with some sort of a tour group.

Packing

packing for a solo trip

One thing that is easy to do when travelling solo is packing.  By not having an entire family to pack for you can easily fit all of your things in one suitcase.  This allows for checking into flights and going through airport security faster because you won’t have to check a bag.  If a flight is late, you can also get to the next gate faster because you won’t have to worry about other people navigating with you through crowds.

Saving Money

Imagine only spending money on one plane ticket or one meal versus four.  This is exactly what you get to do when you enjoy a solo trip.  Travelling with the family is a great experience but can also break the bank.  A solo trip can help you relieve some stress and can actually save you money.  Some cruise lines offer single rates for travelers, and even though you won’t save money on a single rate for a hotel room, you will make up for that in airfare and food costs.

Another way solo travelers save money is by booking last minute deals.  Without being dependent on someone else’s schedule you are able to set your own.  When hotels have unsold rooms, they will often have last minute travel deals.  Solo travelers have the freedom to snag these deals because you only have to plan for yourself.

Independence

Solo travelers get to set their own schedules.  You don’t have to worry about what the group wants to do.  If you want to go to the beach then go.  If you want to eat at an off time, then eat.  On my last solo trip to Disney World I was worried that I would be lonely.  I did not experience this at all.  In fact, I had a great time and I can’t wait to do it all again!

As a solo traveler you can grab a snack and sit down and relax.  You don’t have to worry about someone else telling you what to do or where to go next.  You don’t have to rush, and you shouldn’t have to because you are on vacation.  Vacations are about relaxing and rejuvenating yourself.  You should not have to worry about stress on a vacation and you should not have to worry about the rest of your group having fun.

In the normal, everyday life you are being pulled a million different directions and your identity can get lost in the chaos.  Taking a solo trip can help you become a whole person again. You can see the world from your own eyes and remember that you are a person too.

By traveling solo you will find out that you are more capable of doing things than you think are.  You will learn to navigate through an airport or an unknown city like a pro.  I suggest planning ahead and using a travel advisor for your first trip, so you don’t get lost and stay safe, but going on a trip alone is not as hard as it seems.

Final Thoughts

Everyone should take a solo trip at least once a year.  A solo trip helps renew the body and mind.  It may seem stressful, but with proper planning it doesn’t have to be.  Solo travel can be easy when it comes to packing, saving money, and bringing independence.

Thinking of planning a solo trip soon? Iceland is the safest country for solo travelers according to the GPI (Global Peace Index). Other solo travelers find safety in numbers such as cruise ships, theme park resorts, and tour groups.
