Which Cooling Towel is the Best?

Cooling towels are a must have item for summer travel.  Some vacations, such as theme parks, have little shade to take a break from the heat.  Carrying a cooling towel with you helps from overheating.  Finding the best kind to take with you doesn’t have to be hard.

On a recent trip to Disney World we tried out three distinct brands of cooling towels.  Any brand of towel is better than not having one and we recommend rewetting them midday.  Here is what we think works the best.

Mission Cooling Towel

Misson Cooling Towel
Mission Cooling Towel is good for your neck.

Mission cooling towels are our least favorite of the three brands.  The microfiber type material is softer and less weird feeling than the others but dries out faster. These will need to be rewet often to get the full benefit of cooling throughout the day.

The sizing is more like a scarf which makes it easier to tie around your neck, but also doesn’t give you much material to wipe your face and arms.  The scarf-like size also fits around children’s necks easily so they can just tie them on and go without having to worry about carrying them.

Perfect Fitness Cooling Towel

Our second favorite cooling towel is by Perfect Fitness.  This towel is made from a polyester material and stays wet for a long time.  A good feature on this one is it has a hole one end so that you can hang it up or you can thread the other end through to secure it around your neck.

It has a larger size than the Mission brand, but still fits around your neck nicely.  The larger size is also better for wiping your arms, neck, and face.

Frogg Toggs Chilly Pad Instant Cooling Towel

Frogg Toggs Cooling Towel
Frogg Toggs Chilly Pad Instant Cooling Towel is our favorite.

In the case of cooling towels, yes, name brand does matter.  The Frogg Toggs brand out lasts all the other brands.  You can wet them in your hotel room and store them in a zip lock bag for the day.  Frogg Toggs will last most of the day without drying out and remains cool.  You just need to wring it out to keep activating it.

The larger 33×13 size is nicer too so that it covers a larger area of your body and can be used to wipe down your arms and face or draped over your head to stay cool.  Another use for the larger size towel is laying it down in the back of a stroller to help keep your baby cool during the day.

Travel Tip: Lay a cooling towel down in the stroller before laying the kids down for a nap.

Frogg Toggs also comes in a smaller size the Chilly Mini.  This 29×3 inch towel is perfect for wearing around your neck and stays wet and cool most of the day.  It dries out faster than the Chilly Pad but lasts longer than the Mission scarf size cooling towel.  It is also a perfect size for kids.

Final Thoughts

Cooling Towels for theme parks
Cooling Towels are a must for hot days.

Cooling towels are a fantastic way to beat the heat during scorching summer days.  They are easy to pack in your theme park bag when you are going to be out with little shade.  We think the best brand is Frogg Toggs Chilly Pad because it stays wet and cool most of the day and it also comes in assorted sizes.  The next best cooling towels are Perfect Fitness because of its polyester material.  Mission Cooling Towels are our least favorite because the microfiber material seems to dry out faster than the others.
