21 State Parks in 2021- Part 18
The southernmost state park is Lake Chicot State Park. It lies in Southeast Arkansas and most of it is surrounded by a huge lake. This park offers campgrounds for RV, tent camping, and also has cabins for rent. There is also a large pool with two slides, a playground, and multiple pavilions that allow for large parties. If you are way down south and need a place to take a break, we recommend this park. It is a little of a drive off the main road, due to the size of the lake to go around, but this is an excellent park for camping.
Because we visited in November, our pictures don’t do the true beauty of this park justice.
Lake Chicot
The lake itself is the largest natural lake in Arkansas. Boating, fishing, and water sports are allowed on the lake. The marina offers boat rentals, kayak, and canoe rentals. Be on the lookout for alligators around the marshy areas of the lake.
Camping at Lake Chicot
Lake Chicot has a large campground and has spots available for tent camping, RVs, and cabins for rent. The campground lies in a beautiful, wooded area that surrounds the lake. Because the park is so large guests can easily spread out among the 122 campsites available to enjoy privacy. Cabin guests have free admission to the pool.
Near the camping area you can find a nice playground. Because Morgan was not with us on this trip, we do not have her usual rating scale and seal of approval, but we did make a short stop to see it.
The Swimming Pool at Lake Chicot State Park
The swimming pool is open seasonally and has two large slides. It is rather large in size to help accommodate the 122 campsites full of guests in the park. Admission is free to cabin guests, but other park guests must pay a small fee. Guests ages 2-5 cost $3.00. Guests ages 6+ cost $4.00. You can also purchase a seasonal pool pass which costs $70 for 20 pool visits. On a hot day this is a great place to cool off and have fun!
The Visitor’s Center at Lake Chicot
The interactive visitor’s center houses the history of the Mississippi River Delta area and Southern Arkansas. The museum gives you a unique insight on the cotton industry of the South and how this area of the state grew because of it. You can also learn about local wildlife in the area.
Final Thoughts
Lake Chicot is the largest natural lake in Arkansas. The park that surrounds it is vast in size, beauty, and fun activities for the whole family. We are getting close to the end of our 21 Arkansas State parks in 2021 Challenge . Where do you think we will go next? Remember… Life’s Short… Take the Trip!
