21 State Parks in 2021- Part 15: White Oak Lake
Just a few miles down the road from Poison Springs Battleground State Park lies White Oak Lake State Park. This Park is a nice, small park that is popular for camping, fishing, and boating. We were pleasantly surprised to find this little park while we were visiting the nearby battlefields. We just had to check it out and check it off our list.
Camping at White Oak Lake State Park
Camping is one of the most popular activities at this state park. It houses 45 camping sites in total that consist of four Class A, 37 Class B, and 4 tent sites. Most camping sites are nicely shaded and have beautiful views of the lake.
White Oak Lake
Although swimming in the lake is not allowed many people continue to enjoy the lake through fishing, kayaking, and boating. Pedal boats, a 16 ft. fishing boat with motor, and kayaks are available to be rented at the park marina for a fee. The lake also creates a nice backdrop for picnicking due to the many birds and wildlife that make their homes here.
Family Friendly Events at White Oak Lake
This small park has a few unique features and events. Near the visitor’s center is a basketball goal and balls available for the kids to play with. Morgan was excited to try this out.
Morgan of course also loved the playground near the picnic area; however, it was extremely hot on the day we visited and so we did not stay long.
The Park also has four different hiking trails around the park. The trails range from easy to moderate and some allow mountain biking.
On some days the park offers a Sunset Lake Tour. The tour limits it to 8 guests and lasts two hours. See the park events page for details.
Final Thoughts
This Park was a surprise to find on our way home from our Father’s Day Weekend trip. I would encourage campers to stop by and enjoy this small, quiet park. The camping, lake, and family friendly activities make for a great, but relaxing time. You can even enjoy a short daytrip like us. Bring a picnic to enjoy by the lake and let the kids play. I promise you won’t regret it.
We hope you are enjoying reading about our state park adventures as much as we have enjoyed going on them. Stay tuned for our next stops in the 21 Arkansas State parks in 2021 Challenge . Remember… Life’s Short… Take the Trip!
