Wait Time Secrets
First, we will start at the front entrance to the ride. On any given day you will see the estimated wait time for the queue posted at the gate and in the My Disney Experience App. If the ride ever says 13 min. this is Haunted Mansion code which means, there is zero wait time and you can walk on. They will never post a 0 min. wait time.
Secrets of The Cemetery
The Haunted Mansion Cemetery has some very interesting residents. In addition to a pet cemetery, there is a family plot outside the Haunted Mansion. The headstones pay tribute to former Disney employees such as writers, architects, and Imagineers who helped build and design the original park. Here you can also find the grave of Master Gracey himself.
If you look closely, you will notice that Madam Leota is still watching you from beyond the grave.
Inside the Stretching Room
Once inside the holding room or stretching room, as it is called, you will be told to move to the center of the room. You will want to position yourself near the “lady with a parasol” portrait. This is the area that opens up to the actual ride entrance. By positioning yourself here you can avoid the stampede to get on the ride and be one of the first to enter.
Another secret inside the stretching room is to look up after the scream and the lights go out. You might just see Master Gracey still hanging around.
Secrets of The Portrait Corridor
After boarding your Doom Buggy you will begin to go through the ride itself. The portrait corridor in Walt Disney World originally housed 11 unique changing portraits. Now there are six. The others, however, have been moved to other areas of the mansion so keep a lookout for those throughout the ride.
The secrets you want to watch out for is the snake lady or Medusa portrait. This is the secret photo op for the ride. This is the place to make a silly face or scared reaction if you want to be prepared. While passing the Medusa portrait you will see the camera flash and you know then that your ride photo has been successfully taken.
You can view your ride photo later in the My Disney Experience app.
The Grand Hall
When visiting the attic, one should keep an eye out for hidden Mickeys. These symbols are often placed throughout Disney properties and can be found in unexpected places. In particular, guests should be on the lookout for a place setting on the dining table in the shape of a hidden Mickey. This small detail adds an extra layer of magic to the overall experience of exploring the attic.
Secrets in the Attic
Look for the different wedding portraits throughout the Haunted Mansion attic. The groom disappears, but the bride, Constance, remains. She is even wearing the same wedding dress throughout. Towards the end of the attic scene, you will meet the “hatchet bride” herself and understand why she is called so.
When your Doom Buggy tips backward during the ride this symbolizes falling out the window and dying. The ghosts will acknowledge your presence on the ride now.
Leaving the Ride
After the ghosts hitch a ride home you will exit the ride. Listen closely because a voice will tell you to “Hurry back and don’t forget your death certificate.” The voice is actually the voice of Leota Toombs. She is an Imagineer who also provides the face for Madame Leota in the séance room.
